My Favorite Things: October 2015

As you know from our last post, we’re starting a journey to minimize and organize our STUFF.  The KonMari program doesn’t mean you can’t have nice things or that you can’t ever buy new things though {uh, hence why I’m okay with it}.  Today I have some products I’ve purchased recently that spark joy for me… my very own favorite things!  This isn’t a sponsored post, nor does it have affiliate links – I am just excited about these items and want to share them with you.

1. Corelle Dishes

My favorite things: October 2015 - BorrowedBlessings.netSince before Hubby and I got married, my dishes consist of three sets:
-A Pfaltzgraff set that I bought secondhand and really enjoy – however, the set only started with 4 large plates, 4 small plates and 4 bowls.  Hubby has broken one or two plates, so this set is clearly not sufficient.
-A plain jane light beige colored set of plates and bowls I bought at Dollar Tree – I think I started with 6 or so large plates and bowls, but a few have broken.  They’re still usable, but definitely don’t spark joy.
-A set of melamine {plastic} dishes – we have 4 large plates, 4 small plates and 4 bowls.  We use these regularly.  I love that we can take them outside in the summer, let kids use them, you name it – and we don’t have to worry about them.

I wanted a more cohesive set of dishes.  I grew up in a Corelle household so I know they’re durable and last well.  Hubby and I found a set of pattern-printed on sale and bought 2 sets, but I returned them a few days later.  They were on sale and a good deal, but I just couldn’t handle the print {it was just ugly}.  After returning them, I found a set at Target that I LOVE – the Corelle Bella Faenza dishes.  Hubby didn’t want anything too feminine.  He said these are feminine, but the design is suble enough that even he is okay with them!  {In case you can’t see from the photo, they’re plain white in color but have a design textured around the edges.}  We were planning to just open the dishes at the new house, but I couldn’t wait and opened them last night – totally LOVE THEM! {And also – all of our old bowls were dirty. Sad but true.}  The dishes are on the Target website for $75, but in store they were about half that.

2. Canvas Wall HangingMy favorite things: October 2015 - BorrowedBlessings.net

I found an ADORABLE canvas wall hanging a few months ago at Bed, Bath & Beyond.  It looks like they’ve clearanced out the line, so the one I got isn’t available online.  They have a few other options from the same line.  It was under $10 {even full price} and adds a pop of color!  I got the teal banner that says “Enjoy the Little Things”.  This statement kind of embodies our whole home vision – we want to simplify things down so that we can enjoy more of the little things – friends, family, joy, love.

3. Pet Organization Station

The last product I have to share with you today is this great pet basket!  Right now, we have a mail center right inside the front door that is home to dog leashes, keys, mail and random other stuff {hubby’s head lamp at the moment}.  I’d really like to get the dog leashes separated so we can have our mail center actually be a mail center {crazy idea, huh?}.  I had Kohl’s cash to use a few weeks ago and I found this pet basket on sale for $15 – score!  I’m excited to have everything in it’s place and a place for everything!  Since we don’t have kids yet, we admittedly have a large collection of dogs and dog stuff, lately though, since our dogs are getting older, we’ve slowed down on the toys and generally buy treats and supplements for dog’s joints and coat health.  There’s space for it all at our house and  these will be perfect in this new organizer.

That’s it for the home purchases I’ve made {and loved} lately!  If I were Oprah or Ellen, this is where I’d say “Thanks for reading about my favorite things. Now you get them all for free!”.  Alas, I’m obviously not Oprah or Ellen… so if you want these goodies, you’ll just have to go shopping.

Have you found any great home or decor items lately?  I’d love to hear about them in the comments.  SHARE THE LOVE: Share this post below and follow at the top of the page!
