Transform Your Kitchen in One Day!

As part of our kitchen renovation, I am refinishing the kitchen cabinets.  When we bought our home, the kitchen had standard builder’s grade honey oak cabinets.  Since our renovation budget is somewhere between we’re-working-overtime-to-pay-for-this and whoa-no-I’m-not-cleaning-that-buy-a-new-one, we’re DIYing most of the work.  We found a simple, free way to transform your kitchen {and it’s easily accomplished in one day}!

Kitchen Pre-Renovation

In my deep and thorough Pinterest research, I came across a few kitchens with cabinets raised to the ceiling.  I liked the look of the cabinets raised and Hubby agreed that he liked the appearance.  We aren’t near the end of the kitchen renovation yet, but I couldn’t wait to share this bit with you!

So far I’ve refinished the kitchen cabinets with a darker stain and re-hung the upper cabinets up at the ceiling.  The kitchen looks SO MUCH bigger!  To achieve this, we took down all the upper cabinets, stained them, then re-hung the cabinets up at the ceiling.  My favorite part of this project was the price tag – it didn’t cost anything, just a few hours and the muscle men!

This one simple change has made a HUGE visual transformation in the kitchen!  I’m so excited to keep reno-ing along in the kitchen and share the finished room with you!  In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of the room with the raised cabinets {eeeeeeeeeekkkkk – love, love, LOVE them higher up!}.

Isn’t this great?! I mean, aside from the dust and reno gear…

Are you ready to transform your kitchen yet?  {And yes, I did buy a new step stool for the kitchen so I can reach the upper shelves!}

    I love the look!!! Are you going to put a shelf beneath the cabinets like in the Pinterest picture? I can’t wait to see the finished product!

      Thanks Michelle! Yes, we’ll have a shelf below the cabinets. I’ve never been one for the open shelf/cabinet look, but I love this one! 🙂
