Why We Decided To Announce Our Pregnancy Early

Why We Decided To Announce Our Pregnancy Early - BorrowedBlessings.net

This was written just after we found out we’re pregnant… but we saved it to post online after we told close friends & family.

I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks, 6 days {the day my period was expected to arrive}.  I took a strip test Tuesday evening.  It was positive, but I was in complete shock because we’ve tried for a while now {more on that shortly}.  I didn’t say a word to my husband, then took a digital test the next morning.  It was positive!  I still didn’t tell my husband until late Wednesday night {yep, that’s right… I successfully kept this secret all to myself for a full 24 hours}.  I wanted to tell him in person and have it on video.

We got married a little over a year and a half ago.  We never thought we would have to try too hard to get pregnant and didn’t prevent it except on our honeymoon.  Fast forward to last week… we’ve now been either not preventing or actively trying to get pregnant for a little over a year and a half.  It’s been a long, hard journey {and one that has given me such empathy for women with fertility issues}.  My husband and I both have a passion for adoption, so we knew if we weren’t able to have kids naturally we would adopt.

The last year and a half of waiting has been SUCH a trial for my faith journey personally.  There have been many nights spent trying to comprehend the goodness of God and His plan for our lives, all while wrestling with the pain of STILL not being pregnant.  I didn’t share this struggle with lots of people, but when I did I was amazed at how many women opened right up and shared similar stories or words of encouragement with me.  I shared a snippet of my baby making expectations here back in October.

We chose to share the exciting news of our baby with our immediate families and employers the same week we found out {when I was 4 weeks pregnant}.  We shared the baby news with our extended families and the general public in the following week.  Many, many people wait until the “safe” second trimester to announce their pregnancies, once the risk of miscarriage is lower.  If that’s you, I have nothing but respect for you and your choice.  For us, it’s been a long year and a half and we are ready to shout from the rooftops that our baby is finally here!  Is there a chance of miscarriage? Absolutely, there always is.  However, when I shared my impatience with other women while we were still trying to get pregnant I heard nothing but resounding support and affirmation.  Why shouldn’t pregnancy be the same way?  I, for one, am choosing to celebrate this pregnancy and this baby every day.  If that means at some point I have to come back and share the news of a loss, so be it.  I would rather have the prayers of my warriors going up for this baby than not share my excitement out of fear.

Again, it was a very personal decision to announce our pregnancy this early.  If you have made a different decision with your pregnancy, I totally respect that choice.  This is the choice that is right for us and we are so excited to share it with all of you!

Thanks for following along on our pregnancy journey!  We would love to have your prayers over the health and development of our little peanut!  Check out all of our pregnancy updates, then follow Borrowed Blessings at the top of the page.
