Cave Quest VBS Decorating: Simple Cave Crystals

Cave Quest VBS Decorating: Simple Cave Crystals - BorrowedBlessings.net

We made two different versions of Cave Crystals for VBS this year.  The first used cardboard, brown kraft paper, cardboard tubes, spray paint, painter’s tape and spray foam {that instructional went up yesterday}.  The second version of Cave Crystal {that I’m sharing here} was super simple to make and only used a few supplies.  You can download printable instructions for the Simple Cave Crystals.  These were perfect for our Cave Quest preschool area!

SUPPLIES:
Empty planters {preferably plastic}
Brown kraft paper
Foam pool noodles {bright colors}

PROJECT COST:
The plastic planters came from my mom’s house {she hadn’t planted anything in them this year, so they were just sitting around waiting to be used for VBS! Haha}.  We play a few games at youth group that use half sized pool noodles, so we borrowed those.  You can also purchase these at Dollar Tree!  We purchased a huuuuuge roll of brown kraft paper for Cave Quest and only used a small amount for this project.  In other words, this was one of those awesome projects that didn’t cost anything because we already had everything on hand!

INSTRUCTIONS:

-Cut pool noodles into various lengths {thirds or halves work best}

-Make sure planters are empty and clean{ish}

-Wrap each planter with brown kraft paper.  Use a piece long enough to have some excess inside the pot.

-Stand pool noodles up in the center of the pot.  Use more pieces of brown kraft paper {rolled into balls} to tuck around the pool noodles and help them stand up.  You don’t have to use foam or anything to hold these in place!  The pool noodles and brown paper will support themselves.  TA DAAAA!  Your simple cave crystals are complete!
