Cave Quest VBS: Decorating Spaces – Imagination Station

Our church used Group Publishing’s “Cave Quest” VBS curriculum this summer.  I’ve shared many of our projects, but you may be missing out on a big picture idea of how our spaces looked. Our Imagination Station room was in one of our classrooms.  This room was proof that you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to make VBS special for the kids!  Here’s how we decorated a super simple craft area.

Sorry for the poor quality of these pictures – a lot of them are from my cell phone {I’m not sure why my sleep-deprived VBS directing self wasn’t more concerned with taking good pictures! hahaha}.  I’ve listed the supplies below some of the photos, but you can click on the project links for in-depth instructions and more photos.

All of the stations got a laminated sign so VBS kiddos could easily find their way.

Laminated chalk marker signs:
Black cardstock {8.5”x11”}
Chalk markers
Laminating sheets
Laminating machine

This classroom is typically used by adults.  We added a few more tables and chairs, then covered all of the tables in disposable table cover {yes, we used this neon green in several spaces this year.  Hello frugality!}.

We had two tables for students to sit plus another table for each evening’s craft supplies.  {Spelunker helmet tutorial here.}

Spelunker Helmets:
Blank helmets
Black construction paper
Aluminum foil
-Round jar lids
Scissors
Glue and/or double stick tape
Permanent markers
-Foam stickers, regular stickers, feathers, sequins, other crafty items for embellishments {optional}

I made a sample of each craft ahead of time.  We let the kids make extra crafts if they have time, then those get sent around the world in our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  It’s a great way to fill time and help out another ministry! {Tote bag tutorial here.}

Custom Tote Bags:
Blank tote bags
Fabric paint pens {These were SUPER messy & a pain to use!  I’d advise the permenant markers.}
Permanent Markers
-Newspaper/cardboard
