Cave Quest VBS: Tabletop Gems

Cave Quest VBS - Tabletop Gems - BorrowedBlessings.net

These quick and {fairly} easy tabletop gems turned out cute and were a great project for other people to help with!  We used these on the snack tables to tell each group where to sit.  They made the snack process simpler since everyone was in the sanctuary at the same time!

SUPPLIES:
Styrofoam balls {Ours were 3″ish across}
Brown kraft paper
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Party toothpicks
Colored cardstock
White cardstock
Black cardstock {leftover from cutting out bats}
Double stick tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

-Plug in hot glue gun {make sure to put it on some scrap paper because they always drip hot glue!}

-Cut or tear a piece of brown kraft paper large enough to cover your styrofoam ball.

-Glue the kraft paper around the styrofoam ball {I didn’t actually put any glue on the styrofoam ball so we could easily tear off the paper and re-use the balls.

-You’ll probably have to add glue to several spots on the brown paper to make it lay flat.

-Once you have a fully covered styrofoam ball, stick lots of confetti toothpicks in!  {This was really just a project I handed off to a volunteer, explained my vision and let them use however many toothpicks they wanted.}

-Repeat the process until you have enough tabletop gems {we had 4 groups and made 2 for each group plus 2 for preschool, so 10 total}.

-To distinguish snack tables, I made crew signs {printed 2 per sheet of paper} on white cardstock, attached to 1/2 sheet of neon cardstock.  The crew sign got taped to a few of the toothpicks to help it stay in place.

-We taped another sheet of neon cardstock and a sheet of black cardstock paper under each tabletop gem.  These brightened up the tables and made it easy for volunteers to lift up the whole decoration to clean the tables each evening.

The tabletop gems ended up super cute and were made using mostly materials we had already purchased for other VBS projects and decorations!  Feel free to use the images below to make your own crew signs for snack or other areas!  {To use the images below, click each one to make it large, then right click and save the image to your computer.  You can then open and print each one any size you want.}
