Custom Nursery Closet Dividers with the Silhouette Cameo

If you’ve followed me for long, you know that last Christmas I went Cameo crazy.  With this baby coming in less than 3 months, my nesting and decorating urges have definitely hit a new high!  I’m so excited to be able to use my Cameo to decorate and organize this baby’s nursery!  As we started to accumulate baby clothes, I hated them all just hanging in the closet together.  I knew I wanted some sort of dividers like they have at retail stores, but the plain jane ones are just boring.  I found some blank closet dividers on Amazon and wasted way too many supplies figuring out just how to get them properly decorated started the design process.  Here’s what I came up with!

Supplies:
Silhouette Cameo 2 {or the brand new Cameo 3}
Vinyl {preferably Oracal 651}
Blank Closet Dividers

  1. Order blank closet dividers {or I suppose you could use ones with words and just cover them up… but I’d go with blanks}
    I’ve linked to the exact closet dividers I got.  There’s also a 50 pack for a way better price per item, but I haven’t tried that brand.

    Yes, I am saving those center scraps for other designs.

  2. Cut and apply the background color
    My nursery closet dividers have 2 layers – the background color, which covers most of the white divider, plus the decorations on top.  Both layers are permanent adhesive vinyl.  I debated using several different colors for the background, but I ended up making them all hot pink background with silver design.  I spent forever getting the background to cut the right size/shape and ended up altering a template I found online.  I’ve attached my cut file for the closet divider template if you want to use it!Custom Nursery Closet Dividers with the Silhouette Cameo - BorrowedBlessings.net
  3. Cut and apply the sizing
    My favorite parts of making these nursery closet dividers is that I can customize them however I want – including the sizing!  Some of the pre-marked sets I saw had sizes I didn’t need, or didn’t include newborn {which I wanted}.  I ended up making: Newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2T, 3T and 4T with my pack of ten dividers.  To size the font, I kept one of the background templates and tested each divider’s size to make sure it would fit.  The 12-18 and 18-24 month dividers have just a smidge smaller font because they have more numbers.  You could also wrap the text around the divider if you like the curved text look.Custom Nursery Closet Dividers with the Silhouette Cameo - BorrowedBlessings.net
  4. Cut and apply the design
    Our baby’s nursery is elephant themed, so OF COURSE these needed some elephants!  The elephants ended up being a good bit less than 1″ tall, so they are pretty intricate.  I didn’t use a special blade, just the normal Silhouette cutting blade and it did just fine on these itty bitty elephants!  If you look closely, you’ll see that I didn’t mess with weeding the tiny triangle between the legs… y’all, I’m fairly certain my baby will never notice.  This is what happens when you craft at 10pm on a work night!  My original plan was that each divider would have the size at the top, plus two elephants straight across from each other.  Like I said though, it was late and I was lazy, so I decided to offset the elephants so I didn’t spend hours lining up baby elephants.

    These are great!
    How do I access the file for the template you created? I do not see it. I tried clicking on the pictures but they just enlarged. The highlighted links didn’t connect to the layout template unless I missed one. Thanks! Great job!
