Blueprint Backdrops – Maker Fun Factory

I am super excited to share this easy (and large) backdrop idea!  Using tarps and white tape, you can quickly make large-scale backdrops.  These would work well on stage or in other areas of your building.  I’m planning to use these on four walls in our foyer (entry) area.

Supplies:
Blue tarps (I used 6’x8′)
Packing tape
Skinny white artist tape or off-white masking tape

Instructions:
1. Attach blue tarps together.  I used (4) 6’x8′ blue tarps per wall section (so it made one large 16′ wide by 12′ tall).  On the photos below, I used zip ties to attach the tarps.  However, I realized that the grommets on tarps don’t line up… it’s MUCH faster and easier to just use clear packing tape, overlap the seams a little and tape over them.

2. Use skinny white tape to add grid lines to the blue tarps.  This will make it look like old style blueprints.  I used 1/2″ artist tape on my first set.  It worked, but does take the blue coloring off the tarps when you peel the artist tape off.  I also got some off-white masking tape to try, but haven’t tried removing it to see what happens yet.

These cost about the same amount as we usually spend on paper or table cover, but they’ll last much longer and can be re-purposed for future activities!

Will you tell me how you plan to decorate your Bible Discovery room?

I used dark blue $1 plastic tablecloth and silver metallic sharpie to make lines. It worked well for nearly no cost

We did the same with white sharpies and they turned out fantastic! It was the best $3 I have ever spent! This was a wonderful idea, covered a ton of space and gave a huge impact! Can’t wait to see what you come up with for next year’s theme!
