This was a fun spring craft for our family. It’d also be great for Easter or other holidays!

Supplies:

Parchment paper
Dot markers or bingo daubers
Pens
Black cardstock paper
Scissors or xacto knife
School glue
Hole punch
String

Instructions:

PREP: Tear/cut a sheet of parchment paper for each student that is approximately 7.5″ x 10″ (the parchment paper is 15″ wide so you can cut it in a piece 10″ long, then cut it in half so you have two pieces that are each 7.5″ x 10″).

This was one piece of parchment paper cut in half.

PREP: Cut a 5″ x 7″ (approximately) rectangle out of the center of the black cardstock paper. This will be the picture frame. You’ll need 2 sheets of cardstock (with the hole in the same place) for each student.

Are you doing Rocky Railway VBS this summer? Use the smaller black pieces of card stock from the center of your frames for your sponge painted trains!

Give each kiddo a sheet of parchment paper. Have them write their name on it using a pen.

Ask kids to draw a cross on their parchment paper using a pen. You can also print a cross outline off the internet, lay it under the parchment paper and have them trace it. The cross should be roughly 4″ x 6″.

Use dot markers or bingo daubers to fill in your cross outline. Once the cross is finished, sit it aside to dry (ours took a couple hours to dry).

After the cross is dry, let students glue the parchment paper inside the black frame. I applied school glue to one side of each black frame, put the parchment paper on top of one black frame, then put the other frame on top of the parchment paper.

Hole punch two holes in the top of the black frame.

Tie a piece of string, yarn or skinny ribbon through each hole and tie it so you can hang your sun catcher in the window. My string was about 14-16″ long.

OPTIONAL: Use a permanent marker to add a phrase to the parchment paper (such as He is Risen! or God is good!).

Hang your DIY sun catcher craft in the window and enjoy the beautiful colors shining through! Want to brighten someone’s day? Make a couple extra to pass along to neighbors or grandmas!
