Paper Plate Cutout Gears – Maker Fun Factory

We made A LOT of gears this year… like, a lot.  I felt like Bubba Gump’s million kinds of shrimp… we have gears cut out of tablecloths, gear posters, gear toys, gears that look metallic, gears that actually work… One of the types of gears we made were paper plate cutout gears.  These were one of the projects we used during our volunteer work day.  They’re a great project to send home with someone, too!

Supplies:
Paper plates
Scissors
Permanent marker

These gear cutout signs have been perfect for everything from crew signs to photo booth props and more!  They’re super easy to make, too (and inexpensive).  The disposable plates in the party section at Walmart cost about a dollar per package.  They have creases around the edges, so it’s super easy to measure your gear spacing.  I tried a few different variations… on most of the plates, I either cut out 2 sections, then left 2 sections or cut out 3 sections, then left 3 sections.  You can then use permanent markers to decorate them (bible verses, key sayings, station names, crew signs, you name it!).  You might be able to use paper plates from other places, but the creases in the cheap Walmart plates were perfect guides.  And seriously, who doesn’t love decorating for a dollar?!

I am a long-time Vacation Bible School lover.  I’ve lead in several capacities throughout the VBS world and am currently our church’s VBS director.  It is a joy for me to be able to share VBS ideas and resources with others!  I will continue to share ideas here for Maker Fun Factory and other VBS programs.  Follow the blog to see more of your ideas and planning!  Please let me know if there are any specific VBS items or ideas you need help with.
