Instructions

  • Attach Command Hooks on the walls following the manufacturer instructions. We put ours about 1.5′ from the ceiling in a grid pattern (3-4 along each wall), attached to the wall sideways (so the hook is horizontal). Make sure the Command Hooks are approximately lined up with the Hooks on the opposite wall.
  • Tie a piece of fishing line to one Command Hook, then tie the other end of the fishing line to the Command Hook on the opposite wall and cut the fishing line. Repeat this process with fishing line, creating a grid pattern on your ceiling. For added strength, you can weave the fishing line over and under the lines it crosses from the perpendicular lines.
  • Once you have the grid pattern of fishing line attached to your walls, you can tie fishing line to any lightweight decor and tie it to the grid pattern.
I know it’s hard to see the clear fishing line, so I tried to trace over it with green so you can sort of see the grid pattern on this classroom ceiling.
  • We’ve used this method and left the fishing line grids up for years in some of our classrooms! If you need to remove them for any reason, just make sure to pull the Command Strips flat along the wall. As long as you do so, the Command Strips should remove from the wall without leaving any residue or damage (the only time we’ve had Command Strips damage our walls was when they were removed incorrectly).
