Indoor Advertising Banner for less than $1! – Maker Fun Factory VBS

Our church has an outdoor vinyl banner that we display with the VBS dates and times every year.  To advertise indoors, we typically order a lower quality indoor banner customized with the theme each year.  This year, I made a HUGE indoor banner for under a buck.  The banner is 4.5 feet wide by 9 feet tall – wowzers!

This post may contain affiliate links (I earn a small percentage of anything you purchase but you don’t pay anything extra).  Thanks for helping support Borrowed Blessings!

Supplies for this project:
-Blank banner (table cover)
-King size Sharpie marker

The banner itself is a plastic tablecloth from the party section at Walmart.  The edges have a lego design, but the center is plain white.  This makes the PERFECT space to write your VBS dates/times.  If you’re trying to find these in-store, you can check your local store inventory using BrickSeek.  (The UPC for the lego tablecloth is 039938364960).

I broke down a large cardboard box and laid it under the table cover.  Once I marked the edges of the white space on the cardboard, I used a king size Sharpie and designed the banner on the cardboard.  (This allowed me to figure out how to lay everything out to fit the way I wanted.)  After I liked how the info looked on the cardboard, I laid the table cover on top of the cardboard and traced the information on the cardboard.

The permanent marker does take a while to dry, so make sure you have somewhere to lay the banner.  I was at home and didn’t want anyone to walk on the banner, so I used tape to hang the banner from our curtain rod.

Information I included on our indoor banner:
-Theme
-VBS dates
-VBS times
-Ages that can attend VBS

If you have large walls that need lots of color and decoration, you could use this concept but write the bible verses, daily bible points, etc.  The tablecloths would also make a cute backdrop for a photo spot!

In case you haven’t already heard, this year’s VBS theme from Group Publishing is Maker Fun Factory {read more about the basics here}.  The VBS kits are now available for purchase and I HIGHLY suggest getting the ultimate starter kit that includes a digital copy of all the materials on a USB drive.

I am a long-time Vacation Bible School lover.  I’ve lead in several capacities throughout the VBS world and am currently our church’s VBS director.  It is a joy for me to be able to share VBS ideas and resources with others!  I will continue to share ideas here as we prepare for Maker Fun FactoryVBS .  Follow the blog to see more of our ideas and planning!  Please let me know if there are any specific VBS items or ideas you need help with!
