Roar VBS Decorating: Bible Story

Our Bible Story leader is FANTASTIC, so I just hand over the book and she takes charge of the decorating for her station. She set up several areas within the Bible Story room so the team didn’t have to change the decorations throughout the week. Here are photos and decorating notes from our Roar VBS decorations in the Bible Story station…

Our Bible Story and Snack stations are both in the church fellowship hall. Snack is served right outside the kitchen at our fellowship hall tables and Bible Story is around the edges of the room. We serve snack to all the elementary kids at the same time, so the two stations can conveniently share the Fellowship Hall.

This is the view from the snack area looking at the beginning of the story area. Pharaoh’s palace is made from a 10′ instant pop up canopy. The team hung red tablecloths from the sides using straight pins.

The white and gold decor on either side of the door is actually a heavy paper table runner leftover from a birthday party.

The team used a long cardboard tube (about the size of a closet rod) and zip ties to hang brown curtains so the palace doors would open and close. (I didn’t get photos of all the details so some of the images here are screenshots of the decorating walk-through video.)

Inside Pharoah’s palace was a plethora of decor! The team used one of the church chairs covered with a metallic gold tablecover for Pharoah’s throne. There were also a few side tables, fake fruit, a few baskets, a lamp and a battery operated candle. All of these items were from either the church supply closet or our local thrift shop.

As we travel clockwise through the story area, the next feature is the tomb. This was made from a plastic frame covered with tan colored tarps, with one of our round church tables as the rock in front of the tomb. The plastic frame is constructed of pvc pipes stuck in buckets of concrete. The team also added some candles and greenery around the outside.

The next story area featured an 8′ bamboo fence with cardboard bricks and two small wooden tables (which we already had at church in other areas).

The final major portion of the story area was this painted backdrop! We pass our decorations on to several other churches each year. One of the churches had this backdrop and loaned it to us. It is made of 3 queen sized sheets which were painted to look like an Egyptian landscape. The woman who painted it suggested using acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium so the paint wouldn’t be crunchy when it dried.

The team used blue tarps for the kids to walk through (the Red Sea) during story time. The tan tarp is just there to hide the stacks of chairs.

Did you see the photos from our foyer and sanctuary? I’ll be posting more areas throughout the next few weeks!
