Supplies:
–Toilet paper tubes
–Scrapbooking paper or construction paper
–Scissors
–School glue
–Duct tape or stapler
–Hole punch
–String, yarn or ribbon
-Optional: Stickers or permanent markers
Instructions:
Toddler and preschool kiddos love using their binoculars to explore their surroundings. This is probably one of the most versatile crafts we do (there are so many ways to make binoculars)!
- Collect supplies. If you can’t find enough toilet paper tubes, you can use paper towel tubes cut in half. Paper towel and toilet paper tubes come in all different lengths, so match up your pairs that are similarly sized. You can also buy toilet paper tubes, but I always try to collect them from our congregation and community (facebook posts work well for us)!
- Cover tubes. Cut scrapbooking paper or construction paper the same width as your tubes. Use school glue to attach the paper to the tubes. I used one sheet of scrapbooking paper to cover my two tubes.
- Attach tubes to each other. You can staple your tubes together or wrap a strip of duct tape around them.
- Attach neck strap. You can use string, yarn or ribbon to hang your binoculars around your neck. In the photo below, I put the string in the duct tape as I wrapped it around to attach the tubes together. However, the string stays on better if you punch a hole in the side of each tube, then tie on the string.
- Optional: Let kids decorate their binoculars using stickers or permanent markers.
