Supplies:

Animal outlines
Cardstock paper
Scissors
Hole punch
String
Optional: Gallon size ziploc bags

Instructions:

-Print animal outlines onto cardstock paper. I copied mine onto 8.5×11″ paper, but tried to keep them realistically sized (for instance, the lion was much smaller than the elephant).

-Use scissors to cut out animals (it doesn’t matter if the black lines show – we’re going to flip them over). This is a fantastic way to involve people who can’t attend VBS to volunteer – send them home with some copied animals and scissors! (I put about 10-15 cardstock animals in a gallon size ziploc bag with a note indicating what date I needed the animals returned to church. I also made an announcement during church that I had take-home projects ready to go in our foyer. By doing this, I had volunteers cut out all the animals for me -wahooo!)

I tied a knot on this one only because it was the last one on the string.

-Flip animals over so the black lines don’t show. Hole punch two holes in the top of each animal (this is where the string will go).

-Once you are ready to hang garland, weave a long piece of string through the holes you just punched. Hang animal garland right away once you string it. Be careful – the animals are a pain to untangle if they get tangled up (don’t ask how I know).

We used these garlands as fillers throughout our VBS, including in our snack, music and preschool areas. Since I used yellow paper, I added an animal print tablecover on the wall behind the animals to make them pop. You can see the animal garlands hanging in a few different areas in our decorating walk-through video.
