Roar VBS Decorating: Preschool

We allow ages 3 (and potty trained) through just finished 6th grade to attend our VBS program. Our preschool group includes kids who are at least 3 years old through those who haven’t been to kindergarten yet (so 3-5ish years old). Check out these decorating pictures from our preschool area…

Our preschool group is our largest VBS age group! Thankfully, we have a separate gym building that the preschool kids can use. The preschoolers come to opening and closing in the main building (with the big kids), but the rest of their evening they stay in the gym building for their own rotations and activities.

Most of my pictures in this building were taken during setup (before it was completely finished) so some of the photos are in progress. The rest of the photos had kids in them so I’ve cropped/edited out the kids.

The building entryway walls were covered using large orange paper, african print plastic and large brown paper. We made a “Life is Wild, God is Good” garland using punch out bulletin board letters which were taped to string. Other decorations include lion bags and paper animal garland.

We covered our water fountains with brown kraft paper so they blend in. We cut the african print plastic into smaller strips to make a border for the wall.

Moving around the room, the safari print wall border continues. We taped safari animals to the wall. One perk of decorating the preschool area is that your decorations don’t need to go all the way to the ceiling because their eye level isn’t that high! (This photo was taken during decorating before we covered the water fountains with brown kraft paper.)

In this corner we have an upright freezer. We covered it with tan tarps and a hawaiian luau skirt to hide the freezer. Beside our hut are a few small flower pots. The walls here have more of the african animals, plus a crocodile we traced on animal print tissue paper using this method.

Inside the gym we had this zoo animal scene setter (aka large plastic backdrop)… it actually had a Happy Birthday banner with it. We obviously left that part out. The scene setter was a nice splash of color and a fun place to take pictures.

This wall is just to the right of the scene setter. We covered the lower portion of the wall with large orange paper. A zoo animal poster added a pop of color.

This is a step back from the last photo with the orange paper. We added animal wrapping paper above the orange paper as well as a puzzle as decor on the orange paper. We hung strips of streamers in the doorway. This area is used for attendance and snack.

The preschool program actually only uses half of the gym. We created a corridor blocking the other half of the gym using extra tables, which we hung safari animal posters on.

We hung tarps on the back sides of the table so the kids weren’t tempted to climb through the tables and get to the other side of the gym.

In the center of the gym we set up an instant canopy to house bible story and bible verse. We hung king size white sheets on 3 sides of the canopy by tying them to the canopy frame. Our “fire” for story was created with real sticks wrapped with orange Christmas lights.

Toward the back of the gym (our craft area) we used these chalkboard animals on the wall (bonus: they’re on clearance!). The animal cutouts and positive affirmations were both part of the bulletin board set.

The lower portion of the back wall of the gym was covered with large red paper and paper chains (we cut strips of construction paper and stapled them into chains). We hung animals made out of brown kraft paper that the kids could color if they finished early with their craft.

The kraft paper animals were made using the same method as the crocodile from the entryway.
