Roar VBS: Tribal Printed Paper for Wall Decor

We’re using a variety of decorating materials for different areas of our Roar VBS program. For the church foyer, we are covering the walls using large rolls of paper. One wall will feature tribal printed paper. This tribal printed paper is an easy and fun way to brighten up your spaces for Roar VBS!

Our church foyer includes registration in the center of the room plus a different theme on each of the walls (photo booth, missions, tshirt sales and general VBS decor). We’re using sunset colors (yellow, orange and red) in a variety of ways throughout our Roar VBS decor. In the foyer, each wall will be covered with large paper in one color (yellow, orange or red). The walls will each be covered with solid colored paper except our photo booth wall, which will be covered with tribal printed paper. The tribal printed paper was easy and affordable for our volunteers to create and I’m so excited for the fun feature it’s going to be in our foyer!

Supplies:

Instructions:

  • Print sample tribal patterns (see a few ideas below). The large, blank sheet of paper can be overwhelming… providing these design ideas can help your volunteers tackle the project!
  • Measure the height of the walls in the area you’d like to decorate with tribal printed paper.
  • Cut sheets of paper enough to cover the feature wall. (Our foyer walls are 9.5 feet tall, so I measured and figured that we need 7 sheets of paper that are each 4′ wide and 9.5′ tall to cover our photo booth wall.)
We used the box the red paper came in as a straight edge for drawing stripes.
  • I specifically asked our volunteers to decorate all the sheets with the patterns going down the long sheets of paper (rather than lines and patterns going across the short direction). This way, we can hang all of the sheets side-by-side and they’ll look cohesive, even though a different person decorated each sheet.
  • Hang your tribal printed paper or store the sheets until you’re ready to decorate for Roar VBS. We made these at our VBS Prep Party, which was about 3 months before VBS. To store the large paper until VBS, we rolled each sheet and rubber banded it.
