Roar VBS: Wobbly Eggs Craft

Lions and zebras and elephants, oh my… Roar VBS is quickly approaching!  This year’s safari-themed VBS is sure to be an adventure your kiddos will cherish for years to come!

During Imagination Station on day 1 of Roar VBS, kids receive a tumble drum as part of the object lesson. These wobbly eggs are an inexpensive alternative for the Day 1 object lesson!

Today’s Group Gizmo: Tumbler Drum ($.79 per kid)

The day 1 object lesson during Imagination Station is the tumbler drum. The purpose of the drum is that we often get knocked down in life. Just like the tumbler drum, we can choose to get right back up again. These wobbly eggs are a perfect alternative! Just like the tumbler drum, our wobbly eggs may fall down momentarily, but quickly pop right back up again.

Supplies:

Plastic Easter Eggs
Glass floral stones
Hot glue gun or E6000 adhesive
Washi tape or electrical tape
Permanent markers

Instructions:

-Open all of your easter eggs (you’ll need one per child). If you’re going to prep a lot of them at once, use an empty egg carton or plastic box to keep all the eggs upright and organized!

-Use a hot glue gun or E6000 adhesive to glue a glass floral stone into the wider half of the egg (the top half). The hot glue gun is the fastest, most secure way to glue them. However, hot glue guns and young kiddo fingers obviously don’t mix. I’m planning to glue the stones into the eggs ahead of time, then just let the kids complete the rest of the steps during VBS. If you want to avoid the hot glue gun, E6000 is thick enough to hold the stones in place while they dry. The stones may slip a little, but E6000 was the only glue I tested thick enough to work.

-Close the egg and tape it with washi tape or electrical tape. I taped part of ours, but just clicked part of them closed without taping them. The ones that I didn’t tape closed came open as soon as my daughter started playing with them. I’d strongly advise that you have the kids tape every egg closed!

-Decorate the eggs. Let your imagination (or your kiddos imagination) go wild! You can add more colorful tape, draw a design or color a face on the wobbly egg using permanent markers.

-Reinforce the object lesson and daily bible point as your kids test out their fun wobbly eggs. You can either let the kids take their wobbly eggs home, or you can keep them at church and use them for your Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! (These are a quick craft, so your kids could easily decorate several eggs – one to keep for themselves, the rest to leave for your OCC shoeboxes.)

I am a long-time Vacation Bible School lover.  I’ve lead in several capacities throughout the VBS world and am currently our church’s VBS director.  It is a joy for me to be able to share VBS ideas and resources with others!  I will continue to share VBS ideas here as we prepare for Roar VBS.  Follow the blog to see more of our ideas and planning!  Please let me know if there are any specific VBS items or ideas you need help with!

Do you have alternatives for all 5 of the Imagination Station gizmos?

      Diana,

Some of my ideas relate to a specific night (like the wobbly eggs) and others could be used any night (like the shaker instruments). Let me know if you have any more questions!

Can you clarify which side of the egg to glue the stone too. First it says “wide side” then it say “top side”. Maybe I’m confused but isn’t the wide side of the egg the bottom? Thanks so much! I so appreciate your ideas as they are a lifesaver on our budget!
