Our church used Group Publishing’s “Cave Quest” VBS curriculum this summer.  I’ve shared many of our projects, but you may be missing out on a big picture idea of how our Preschool Cave Pool space looked.  This area is definitely one of our most elaborately decorated.  The preschoolers have their own program in our gym building.  They come to opening and closing with the big kids, but stay in their building for all other activities.  This works really well for us, since this age can be challenging to keep on a tight schedule.

I’ve listed the supplies below some of the photos, but you can click on the project links for in-depth instructions and more photos.  *If you’re ordering supplies online, make sure to click through Ebates to get cash back!

Since the preschoolers (ages 3, 4 & 5) stay in this building for all of their activities, they have several different areas.

The craft area was divided using one of the large cave formations, just like we had on the main stage.  {Cave formation tutorial here}

Cave formation:
Large sheets of cardboard {can be re-used from previous years}
Spray foam – about 1 can per sheet of cardboard {it’s only a few dollars a can locally}
Spray paint – various colors {we used purple, teal, neon green, silver, black, brown}
-Stands to mount cave formations {we used plywood stands leftover from previous years}
Jigsaw or box knife
-Marker {to draw outlines}
Staple gun

To exit the cave, kiddos got to crawl through this super cool tunnel!  It was definitely one of the highlights.

Tunnel:
Cardboard sheets
Tarps
Christmas lights
Foam floor tiles
Bright colored cardstock {we used these to make cut out animal shapes}
Double stick tape {to hang animal shapes}

After we made the tunnel, we added foam floor tiles to the cave and tunnel areas to make the concrete floor easier on our volunteers.

Between the tunnel and the craft area, tarps and bible point posters were used to divide off the large open gym area.

The snack area was decorated with pennant banner and bible verse posters.

Whew!  I’m tired again just looking at the pictures!  We obviously have an AWESOME preschool team that really makes the week exciting for our kids.
