Rocky Railway VBS Decorating: Snack (Fellowship Hall)

We use our church fellowship hall as a multi-purpose space at VBS (for both snacks and bible story). Read on for photos of our snack area and list of items we used to decorate this space for Rocky Railway VBS!

Our decor in this room is very simple. Each table has a disposable tablecover (and we keep extras handy, just in case they get messy and need swapped out during the week). We laid 3-5 cutout paper trains on each table.

Along one wall, we have the photo booth. This is a metal backdrop stand, with a painted sheet hung on it (it is a flat king sized sheet). When crews are finished eating snack, they can come up and take pictures at the photo booth. We usually print all the pictures on the final day of VBS and do a photo craft that evening.

On the photo booth table are props that the kids are welcome to hold for photos. We try to have a mix of paper props and 3D props. This year’s photo props included this poster set. Each poster was printed and laminated. We also had a set of vintage suitcases and a large toy train.

Beside the photo booth, we put our large standup train from Oriental Trading. This prop was an easy way to add color and fun!

In the kitchen you can see our snack supplies – we have one box for each day’s supplies. We plan our own crafts. We also serve peanut butter & jelly sandwiches every night in case kids didn’t get dinner before coming to VBS. (We don’t have any kids with peanut allergies. If we did, we’d re-work the PB&J sandwiches.)

We hang the daily schedule and weekly overview in every area.

I tried to list most of supplies we used in our snack room/kitchen. If there’s anything I miss, feel free to add a comment and I’ll tell you where we got that item. I also did a walkthrough video if you’d like to see a quick overview of the whole building.
