Sensory table basics
Sensory tables or sensory bins are a great way to keep kids excited about playing, while using toys and items you may already have on hand. By rotating out the base material and filler items, it’s like a brand new activity every time you use it! Learn more about sensory table benefits, plus ideas of sensory table base materials and tools.

Train-themed sensory table fillers
If you’re doing a sensory table at your church/VBS program, the filler items below can be used as prizes to send home with kids!

Wooden stacking train
Alphabet train
Train cookie cutters
Train crayons
Train track pieces
Train shaped plastic whistles
Train shaped wooden whistles
Rubber stamps (or here’s an option for pre-inked stampers)
Railroad flashlights
Glow in the dark railroad toys
Sand art bottles
Wagon wheel pasta (aka train wheels!)
Small trains (If you’re using nice trains – like motorized ones – be careful what base material you use so you don’t ruin the motors! Maybe just put small trains along with more tools in the table, like measuring tapes and magnifying glasses so kids can investigate the trains. Or grab a cheap pack of trains so your nice ones don’t get ruined by sand in the gears.)
