Roar VBS: Construction Paper Lion Head Craft
Lions and zebras and elephants, oh my… Roar VBS is quickly approaching! This year’s safari-themed VBS is sure to be an adventure your kiddos will cherish for years to come!
These construction paper lion head crafts are adorable! We had so much fun making them that we made 3 different variations. All 3 variations of this craft use pretty much the same supplies. These will be fun to do as a craft during VBS or to make with your kids before VBS and use as decor.

Construction Paper Lion Head Craft #1
Supplies:
-Photo of each child printed on white copy paper
–Scissors
–School glue
–Construction paper
–Optional: Paper cutter
Instructions:
- Print a photo of each child on white copy paper (I printed ours in black & white to save ink). Cut out each child’s face from their photo.
- Cut construction paper into strips that are 6″ long and .75″ wide. (See diagram at the beginning of this post.)
- Flip the photos over and place glue on the back side of the paper around the edge of the face.
- Let kids stick construction paper strips around the glue (so most of the strip hangs outside the photo of their face).
- Once kids are finished putting strips of paper around their photo, they can put school glue across the entire back of the photo (including on top of the edge of the construction paper strips).
- Stick the face with construction paper strips to a full sheet of construction paper.

Construction Paper Lion Head Craft #3
Supplies:
-Blank lion head template printed on tan copy paper
–Scissors
–Black chisel tip permanent markers
–School glue
–Construction paper
–Optional: Paper cutter
Instructions:
- Print lion head templates on tan copy paper (1 lion head per child) – see template below.
- Cut construction paper into strips that are 6″ long and .75″ wide using a paper cutter. (See diagram at the beginning of this post.)
- Let each child cut out a lion head template using scissors.
- Let each child draw eyes, a nose and a mouth on the front of their blank lion head template. I used a chisel tip black sharpie. (I did this at the end of the craft, but it would have been easier to do before gluing anything.)
- Flip the lion head template over and place glue on the back side of the paper around the edge of the face.
- Let kids stick construction paper strips around the glue (so most of the strip hangs outside the template of the lion head).
- Once kids are finished putting strips of paper around their photo, they can put school glue across the entire back of the paper (including on top of the edge of the construction paper strips).
- Stick the lion head with construction paper strips to a full sheet of construction paper.
