Rocky Railway VBS Prep Party

For the past several years, we’ve planned a VBS Prep Party (this is a fun way to say VBS prep work day – haha).  We plan a 2 hour work session right after church on Sunday, when we provide lunch then volunteers help with VBS decorations and prep work.  Read on to see just how much we accomplished in just two hours after church! You can also read more about how I plan our VBS Prep Party each year.

Below is the list of projects our volunteers did during the Rocky Railway VBS Prep Party.  I am always amazed at how much work a group of people can get done in such a short time!

I’ll add links below for the projects that have step-by-step blog posts! (For each of the instructions, the “prep instructions” are what we did at the prep party.)

Rocky Railway VBS Prep Party Projects
Bible verse game: rocks
Bible verse game: Memorization giant Jenga
Craft: suncatcher crosses
Decor: cardboard box train
Decor: poster board trains
Decor: railroad crossing signs

I set up one project on each table so that supplies don’t get mixed up with other projects.

Rocky Railway VBS Prep Party Projects for Kids
We usually print a few simple coloring sheets or other basic activities for kids who need an activity while their parents help at the prep party. (Older kids often help with the regular projects, but it’s nice to have coloring sheets just in case any families need them!)

Bible Verse Coloring Sheets
“I Spy”-ish Activity Sheets
Dot Game Activity Sheets
Word Remix Activity Sheets

I am a long-time Vacation Bible School lover.  I’ve lead in several capacities throughout the VBS world and am currently our church’s VBS director.  It is a joy for me to be able to share VBS ideas and resources with others! Follow Borrowed Blessings to see more of our ideas and planning!
