Vacation Bible School Planning

Vacation Bible School Planning - BorrowedBlessings.net

I’ve been involved in the Vacation Bible School program at church my entire life.  Growing up, it wasn’t a casual “oh, it’s VBS time”… it was pull-out-all-the-stops, wild and fun, over-the-top VBS time!  One year my parents built a gazebo in the church.  It wouldn’t fit out of the room… they literally built it in place to use it FOR ONE WEEK, then took it apart to get the lumber back out of the room.  Another year was the story of Paul in jail… they built a “jail cell”, complete with handcuffing kids to the wall.  Another year it was a huge, life-size igloo built completely out of milk jugs.  I could keep going, but I think you get the point.  It was hard core and it was AWESOME.  Some of my most cherished memories growing up are from the wild VBS weeks – and I have so much more of an appreciation for them now that I understand the work that went into that one week.]

Okay, so this gem isn’t actually from VBS, but it was from my Sunday School days… we were really focused on learning about Jesus and all, obviously.

As a high school/college student, I was the group leader for the nursery/toddler class for several years.  I have always LOVED working with little ones, so this was a role in which I thrived.  I spent a few years doing photography/random jobs.  Last year, I was the leader for the crafts station as well as an unofficial assistant director.  This year, I’ve taken on the role of the VBS director for the first time and I couldn’t be more excited!  I am a planner at heart, so this is a role that utilizes that skill well.  I’ve found lots of helpful ideas and tips online from other VBS veterans so I thought I’d share some of my secrets with y’all.

This basically sums up my life right now.

This year we’ve decided to use Group Publishing’s “Cave Quest” curriculum.  Group is my go-to VBS curriculum.  The VBS kit itself sells for around $200 {I got ours with the 10% off sale over at Christian Book}.  The larger kit is great – it includes the digital edition of EVERYTHING in the regular kit.  I’m excited to be able to print additional copies of leader books without having to stand at the copier flipping pages for hours.

I’ll be sharing lots of VBS goodies with y’all over the next few months, but to start out, here are the Pinterest boards I have going so far:

Pinterest – Director Goodies

Pinterest – Cave Quest

And also – here is a Cave Quest planning facebook group.
