Roar VBS: Photo Booth Ideas

Roar VBS: Photo Booth Ideas

For the last several years, we have a photo booth in our foyer at every VBS. Crews can visit the photo booth after they finish eating snack, or individual kids/families can visit the photo booth after closing each evening. We print pictures before the Sunday VBS Program and distribute them as a VBS keepsake (some years we use them at the craft station on day 5). Check out the ideas below for fun photo booth ideas... backdrops, props, costumes and more!

Roar VBS: Easy Decorating Ideas

Roar VBS: Easy Decorating Ideas

Today I'm sharing easy decorating ideas for safari VBS. Personally, I am a huge proponent of DIY decor where the kids are truly immersed in the theme. However, even the best DIY-er needs some building blocks to enhance their handmade creations! These items will be great fillers with your VBS (or can be more substantial for your VBS if DIY isn't your cup of tea).

Shipwrecked Decorating Spaces: Sanctuary

Shipwrecked Decorating Spaces: Sanctuary

Our church sanctuary houses the opening and closing every evening of VBS.  The stage is our main VBS set and the kids are assigned to pews by their crews.  We typically spend the most time and energy on the stage decorations since they're the main set that kids will see several times each night.  Our sanctuary also houses the bible verse station.  I'll share those photos in another post!  Some of the decorations used in our sanctuary were given to us by a couple of other churches, while we made or re-purposed the…Read more …
Shipwrecked Decorating Spaces: Foyer

Shipwrecked Decorating Spaces: Foyer

Our church has now finished Shipwrecked VBS!  It was an awesome week of island adventures and sweet moments with our kiddos and adults.  This is the first of several posts where I'm going to share decorating photos from each of our Vacation Bible School spaces (watch for future posts of our other areas).  Please feel free to add your ideas in the comments below!  I'll add links in this post for the tutorials and/or supplies.  Let me know if you have any further questions about supplies or projects - I'm happy to give…Read more …
VBS Director Series: How to Plan a VBS Prep Party

VBS Director Series: How to Plan a VBS Prep Party

Years ago (when I was a kid attending VBS and my parents were station leaders), most of the congregation would spend all day at church on the Sunday before VBS started.  They would spend hours and hours transforming the entire church into the VBS theme.  Over the years, involvement from kids and adults has dropped.  As I've talked to other VBS directors and church leaders, I've found that this is a common theme.  The lack of adult participation in decorating means that (in past years) the bulk of the decorating has fallen on…Read more …
Group VBS 2019 Basics: ROAR!

Group VBS 2019 Basics: ROAR!

Have you herd?! Group's Easy VBS 2019 theme is Roar: Life is Wild. God is good!  This African theme brings together the scenery of the Lion King with crucial biblical truths to form a fun, interactive, biblically-based VBS program.  (Yes, I'm still recovering from VBS 2018, but having a new program to brainstorm provides a mental escape as I lay here wiped out from our Shipwrecked adventure!) You can pre-order the Roar curriculum now, although typically they don't start shipping new VBS kits until December. Here are the Roar VBS basics: Station names Preschool:…Read more …

Shipwrecked VBS – Master List of Imagination Station Craft Ideas

Imagination Station is designed by Group for experiments and science-y gizmos.  However, this station can be used in a variety of ways.  Many churches use the Imagination Station time for crafts instead of gizmos (our church included).  I've compiled a master list of Shipwrecked VBS Imagination Station Craft Ideas below, sorted by day.  There are also ideas at the bottom that can be used for any day. If you decide to order the actual Group gizmos, read this article to see how you can get the gizmos at a discount! This post may…Read more …

Many years, we design postcards and have them printed to advertise VBS.  We pass them out at church and around town, plus we mail them to kids who attended our VBS last year.  This year, we decided to make magnets instead of postcards.  Who doesn't want an island view on their fridge?!
