Coffee Filter Painting

This “painting” isn’t actually painting at all, but it sure is fun! Grab some basic supplies you probably have already to make these colorful coffee filters.

This could easily be a 3 day activity/craft!
Day 1: Coffee filter “painting”
Day 2: Coffee filter sun catchers (come back next week for this tutorial)
Day 3: DIY Greeting Cards (come back next week for this tutorial)

Supplies

Coffee filters (white will turn out brightest, but we had recycled filters so they’re a light brown color – they still worked!)
White card stock paper
Washable markers
Cup of water
Paint brush

Instructions

Lay one coffee filter on top of a sheet of card stock paper.

Use washable markers to color the coffee filter. You don’t have to cover it completely. You can use any design you want – stripes, circles, you name it! Intricate designs won’t show up well in the end.

Once you’re finished decorating the coffee filter with markers, dip your paint brush into a cup of water so it’s wet. “Paint” the coffee filter so it’s completely wet and stuck to the card stock paper.

Sit the card stock paper & coffee filter somewhere to dry. We made several coffee filters, so we laid a couple laundry baskets on their side and laid our coffee filter “paintings” in the baskets.

Once the coffee filters are mostly dry, you can gently peel them off the paper (be careful not to tear the coffee filters).

Make sure to keep the white card stock paper, as well as the “painted” coffee filter! Next week, we’ll do one craft/activity with each of them.
