Roar VBS: Decoupage Tissue Paper Rhino Craft

Lions and zebras and elephants, oh my… Roar VBS is quickly approaching!  This year’s safari-themed VBS is sure to be an adventure your kiddos will cherish for years to come!

Did you see our decoupage lion crafts earlier this week? I thought they turned out super cute, but lion crafts are fairly common and rhino crafts are a lot harder to find. Thus, I’ve used the same method to create a decoupage tissue paper rhino craft! These are so much fun… plus they’re inexpensive to make! They’ll be perfect either to make as a craft during VBS or to make with your kids before VBS (then you can use them as decor for VBS and get the kids excited about your upcoming VBS program).

Supplies:

-Rhino outline template printed on white copy paper
Construction paper
Scissors
Optional: Small foam paint brushes
School glue
Tissue paper squares

Download the free template for this craft at the end of this post (after the decoupage tissue paper rhino craft instructions).

Instructions:

  • Print rhino outline templates on white copy paper – 1 per child. (Don’t use thick paper – you need to be able to see the black outline through the back side of the paper after the kids glue the tissue paper on!)
  • Either squirt school glue around the rhino shape or ask kids to “paint” the entire rhino shape with school glue (using a small foam paint brush).
  • Once the entire rhino shape is covered in a thin layer of glue, stick tissue paper squares on to cover the entire shape. It’s okay if the tissue paper squares go outside the rhino some!
  • Flip over the white paper and cut out the rhino shape (it’s easier to do this once the glue is dry, but it’s possible to do while still wet if you’re impatient like me).
  • Glue the rhino to a piece of construction paper.
