Rocky Railway VBS: Bible Verse Chalk Art

This fun, simple bible verse chalk art will help your kids learn their bible verse and take home a reminder of Rocky Railway VBS! It’s also a great filler activity if kids finish a station early.

Supplies:
Black cardstock paper
Classroom chalk (here’s a 24 pack or a 144 pack, depending how many kids you have)
Metallic sharpies
Optional: laminator and laminating sleeves

Instructions:

Give each student a piece of black cardstock paper. Make sure they write their name on the back (we use metallic sharpies to make their name show on the black paper – although if you’re laminating them you could just write their name with chalk).

Have each student write the bible verse at the top of the page. It’s helpful to write or type the bible verse on large paper so students can see how to spell it. (I actually drew the mountains first on my sample but I think it’d be easier to do the verse first. Just tell the kids to write it kind of small so they have room for mountains.)

Since Rocky Railway is set in the mountains, I drew a mountain backdrop (also, mountains are easier to draw than trains – ha!). You can give the students a few ideas for the backdrop if you want.

TA DA! You could send the pictures home now… BUT the chalk will smear and transfer to other surfaces. I’d highly suggest laminating the pictures so they don’t get messed up. Just put each drawing in a laminating sleeve and laminate it (you can even have this running at the station where the kids make their drawing and laminate them right as the kids finish).
