I recently realized that our kitchen/fellowship hall storage carts at church are made of metal (aka they’re magnetic) and that we could utilize them at VBS time for fun magnetic games… thus, this giant matching game was created. (Don’t worry if you don’t have a large magnetic area – you can still print this game and lay the pieces on the floor or use velcro dots on the wall to hang them.)

Supplies:
Printable giant train matching game
Card stock paper
Laminating machine (you could use a standard size machine, but I suggest ordering the 13″ wide machine because it can handle larger projects too.)
Laminating sleeves
Adhesive magnets
Jumbo ziploc bag

Instructions:

Print 2 copies of each train matching game piece (bible verses) on card stock paper. There are 8 different matching game piece designs, so your matching game can have up to 16 pieces. If you’re playing with younger kids or have a small space, I’d suggest only printing part of the pieces. Just choose which game pieces you’d like to use, then print 2 copies of each.

Laminate your matching game pieces. If you can see through your cardstock paper at all, I’d suggest putting a solid color of cardstock on the back side of every matching game piece before laminating. This will prevent kids from peeking through the paper and cheating. 🙂

If you have a magnetic surface (metal cabinet, magnetic dry erase board, etc): stick a magnetic square in the top right and top left corner of the front side of each matching game piece.

Put a magnetic square where each of the red circles are located on the image above.

Store the matching game pieces in a jumbo Ziploc bag until it’s time to play. When you’re ready to play, randomly hang the matching game pieces on a magnetic surface (the magnets are on the front, so you’ll hang them with the plain back side showing).

The game is played just like regular matching games: flip two cards over per turn. If you find a match, keep it. The player/team with the most matches at the end of the game wins.

This would be a fun activity to have in your snack room! (Crews could play a game before they got snack or after they were finished.) It would also be fun in the Imagination Station/craft area for kids who finish those activities early.
