Rocky Railway VBS: Scribble Train Craft

Try this scribble art craft with literally any age kiddo – if they can hold a crayon, they can make this train!

Supplies:
Black construction paper
White copy paper
Crayons
Scissors
Glue
Optional: Colored construction paper and markers

Instructions:

For each student: Cut a sheet of white copy paper into 3 sections (one half page and two quarter page pieces).

Instruct kids to color each piece of paper a different color. They don’t have to color it nicely – scribbling is just fine! 🙂 The goal is just to cover the sheet of paper. Each piece of paper should be a different color.

Give each kid a piece of black construction paper. Have them glue their largest piece of colored paper onto the middle of the sheet of construction paper. This is their train car.

Ask students to use their scissors to cut circles out of one of the smaller pieces of scribbled paper. (If you’re working with young kids, you may need to cut the circles for them. Preschoolers may be able to cut their own circles, especially if you draw circles on the back side of the paper so they have lines to cut on.)

Glue the circles along the bottom of the train car.

Cut the last piece of scribbled paper into squares. (I drew lines on the back of the paper so my 3 year old knew where to cut.) These will be the train windows. Glue them along the upper portion of the large scribbled paper.

Optional: If you want to add a bible verse to the train, write it on a bright colored sheet of construction paper and glue it to the center of the train. (If you’re working with young kids, I’d have these bible verse papers made ahead of time so they just have to glue it on.)

My completed scribble train craft.

Ta da! I made a scribble train and my 3.5 year old followed along step-by-step and made her own version (which was impressively similar to mine). The only part I helped her with was cutting out some of the circle wheels.
